In 1968, Dr. Spencer Silver – a scientist with 3M – accidentally developed a reusable adhesive that responds to pressure. He began to promote the discovery at 3M but nobody paid attention – they didn’t think much of it. Dr.Silver had to wait for 6 years for somebody to acknowledge that he had created something important.
In 1974, Art Fry – a colleague of Dr. Silver – asked if the adhesive could be used on a bookmark for his hymnbook. The idea worked and suddenly the adhesive received a lot of attention at 3M. In 1977, Post-it notes were launched under the name "Press ’n Peel" but fared poorly. After several launches, Post-it notes began to become popular around the world.
